How are Turkish procedural deadlines computed?
Under Articles 90-94 of the Turkish Code of Civil Procedure (HMK), the day of notification does not count for periods set in days; weekly periods end on the day of the last week bearing the same name as the start day, and monthly periods end on the corresponding date of the last month (or its final day if none exists). If the last day falls on a weekend or public holiday, the deadline rolls to the next business day (HMK art. 93).
Since 1 June 2024 (Law No. 7499), appeal and cassation periods in civil and criminal proceedings are uniformly two weeks from service of the reasoned judgment; administrative-court appeals are 30 days.
Judicial recess (20 July – 31 August)
Statutory periods ending during the judicial recess are extended: in civil and administrative proceedings until 7 September 2026 (HMK art. 104, İYUK art. 8/3), in criminal proceedings until 3 September 2026 (CMK art. 331/4). Enforcement and bankruptcy periods are not extended — enforcement offices keep working during the recess. Cases heard during the recess (alimony, employee claims, interim measures, etc., HMK art. 103) and judge-set periods are likewise not extended.
Electronic service and the fifth-day rule
Electronic service is deemed effected at the end of the fifth day following delivery to the recipient's UETS address (Notification Law art. 7/a); reading it earlier does not change the date. When using the calculator for e-service, enter the deemed service date, not the delivery date.
